MASKS, Venice

Ca del Sol, where traditional mask production is still alive.

In Venice, we speak for centuries about masks. We talk about the famous carnival masks. Many shops offer today these masks, but less and less are hand made. This picture shows the window of one of my favorite mask shops in Venice. Here they still use paper maché for the basic shape and leather, carton, gold leave, color, pearls and other precious materials for decoration.
This picture of the shop window, full of masks, is an invitation to get transported into a compact universe of a world behind masks – carnival masks. …

The play between the different objects in the window, its reflection and the color scheme create a almost mysterious rich environment. It is easy to get lost in this magical space.
